The International Public Employment Forum 2023 (IPEF 2023) organized by Social Security Organisation (Socso) is scheduled to address significant challenges in the labor and public employment sector and provide innovative solutions and best practices.

The three-day event will take place from October 11 to 13 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

It aims to bring together industry experts, stakeholders, and government officials to discuss key topics.

Some of these topics include the creation of new job opportunities, upskilling the workforce, and improving the quality of workers.

Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, the CEO of Socso, stated that participants of the forum can expect valuable insights on workforce development, policy implementation, and skills enhancement.

With the theme “Building a Resilient Workforce: The Madani Approach,” the forum will also focus on initiatives related to skill development training.

Dr Mohammed Azman added, “This includes examining ways to reskill, upskill, and cross-skill talents in alignment with the government’s goals of promoting sustainable employment, economic growth, and workforce development, which are key priorities for our nation’s progress.”

The objectives of IPEF 2023 are to facilitate knowledge exchange and promote employment, collaboration, and innovation in addressing labor market challenges.

Dr Mohammed Azman identified skill gaps, rapid technological change, dependency on foreign workers, and the need to adapt to remote work as primary challenges in building a strong workforce.

The forum aims to discuss these challenges and propose strategies to address them, including identifying best practices in countries such as Belgium, Turkiye, Japan, and South Korea.

Expert-led discussions, case studies, and interactive sessions will be conducted to examine successful operational approaches adopted by organizations. Workforce resilience and its correlation with business success will also be explored.

The event will feature key speakers specializing in labor market economics, public policy, and workforce development, including Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, World Bank Malaysia senior economist Dr Matthew Dornan, and national bowling legend Datuk Shalin Zulkifli.

The forum expects around 1,000 participants from various countries and sectors, including government agencies, international organizations like the International Social Security Association (ISSA), research institutions, and the private sector.

Collaboration with international groups like ISSA and the International Labour Organization (ILO) will enable access to expertise and resources in tackling labor market challenges.

Dr Mohammed Azman also highlighted Socso’s job portal, MyFutureJob, which has successfully provided job placements to many applicants.
