According to Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, the Johor police have received 11 reports related to the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections. The reports were received from various areas, with seven reports from Johor Baru North, three reports from Johor Baru South, and one report from Iskandar Puteri. However, no reports have been received from Muar so far.
In addition, Bukit Aman has opened investigation papers under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 in relation to a ceramah that took place in Simpang Jeram. The investigation is related to a speech by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, where he allegedly questioned the authorisation of the Pardons Board.
Although the incident occurred in Johor, the police report was filed in Kuala Lumpur. Comm Kamarul Zaman stated that the Johor police will assist Bukit Aman in the investigation of Abdul Hadi’s case. This is currently the only report related to the 3R (royalty, religion, and race) issue, and the police will continue to monitor the matter, including on social media.
Comm Kamarul Zaman assured the public that no fighting or arguments have been reported in connection to the campaigns in Pulai and Simpang Jeram. He commended the maturity of the voters and expressed gratitude to all groups for maintaining harmony.
Furthermore, he reminded all parties to adhere to the approved time frame for their campaign permits during the election. One incident occurred where a party failed to comply with the designated time frame, but after receiving advice from officers, they adjusted their schedule accordingly. The time frame is in place to prevent clashes among contesting parties and facilitate the campaign process. The use of drones without approval is also prohibited.
Comm Kamarul Zaman emphasized that campaign activities should not take place in places of worship such as mosques and surau.
