VISITORS to Hospital Sibu can now enjoy easier parking with the addition of 118 parking bays. The goal of this project is to alleviate the parking issues faced by the public, as many complaints have been received regarding the difficulty in finding parking. The facility was officially opened by Sibu MP Oscar Ling, who expressed hope that the new bays would help resolve this problem.
The second phase of the project, which cost RM500,000, was completed in the previous month. The first phase, consisting of 124 bays, had already been completed in 2019. As a result, the hospital now provides a total of 924 parking bays, with 30% reserved for staff members.
Ling also addressed long-term plans to upgrade both Sibu and Miri hospitals into regional centers. These plans would involve enhancing the facilities and increasing the number of medical staff at both locations. In particular, there is an urgent need for a radiotherapy center and heart center at Hospital Sibu. Currently, patients with heart and cancer conditions in Sibu are required to be referred to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, causing inconvenience and additional travel for them.
