The police in Kuala Lumpur have detained twelve individuals, both local and foreign, following a raid on an illegal gambling call centre in the city. The suspects, whose ages range from 19 to 37, were apprehended during an operation that took place on September 8. As a result of the raid, four computers, five laptops, nineteen mobile phones, and two passports were confiscated.
Authorities believe that the syndicate that was operating at the call centre was engaging in online gambling activities. Their primary targets were victims from Bangladesh.
According to Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor, the detained individuals were working as administrators and customer service officers for the illegal gambling syndicate. All suspects will remain in custody for further investigation.
ACP Amihizam emphasized the importance of reporting any scams to the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) through the 997 hotline. He also urged the public to share any information related to illegal activities with the authorities by contacting the Brickfields police hotline at 03-22979222, the KL police hotline at 03-21460584/0585, or visiting the nearest police station.
