    12 Malaysian sustainable energy projects win the ASEAN Energy Awards

    TWELVE Malaysian projects have received the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2023 for their implementation of sustainable energy practices.

    The AEA 2023 awards ceremony occurred in Bali, Indonesia, during the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM).

    The AEA promotes and acknowledges the adoption of sustainable energy practices by public and private sectors in ASEAN member states.

    The AEA is divided into three categories: Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards, Renewable Energy Project Awards, and Clean Coal Awards.

    A total of 23 Malaysian projects that won the National Energy Awards (NEA) were submitted for the AEA 2023, and 12 were announced as winners in various categories.

    The following projects were among the first prize winners of AEA 2023:

    1. Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices

    > Green Building Awards (Large category):

    Tzu Chi International School

    > Energy Management in Buildings and Industries Awards (Small and Medium Buildings category)

    Johor Port Authority Building

    2. Clean Coal Awards

    > Clean Coal Technology Utilisation (Large Industry category)

    Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad led the Malaysian delegation to AMEM.

    Minister Nik Ahmad expressed his hopes for the success of Malaysian participants in the AEA, stating that he believes it will inspire other industry players to adopt sustainable energy practices and contribute to the country’s commitment to decarbonization.

    He also urged more industries, corporations, and individuals to take the lead on climate action and promote the adoption of sustainable energy practices as ASEAN progresses towards its goal of net zero emissions.

    Minister Nik Ahmad assured that the ministry will continue its efforts to encourage the adoption of sustainable energy practices through initiatives such as the NEA, as well as exploring additional opportunities to foster the uptake of energy best practices.
