KUALA LUMPUR: The government is committed to enhancing the efficiency of public service by reviewing and streamlining the structure and functions of ministries and agencies as part of its Big Bold initiatives. These initiatives aim to reduce overlapping and clearly define the functions of agencies in the public sector. According to the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Mid-Term Review (MTR) released by the Economy Ministry on Monday (Sept 11), the government recognizes the issue of overlapping definitions as an ongoing challenge.
Efforts will be made to re-evaluate the existing role and functions through engagement sessions with relevant ministries and agencies. Additionally, measures will be taken to review existing laws and outdated legislation. The government also aims to strengthen the roles and functions of agencies responsible for the legislature and whistleblower protection.
The Big Bold initiatives on governance and institutional framework give special emphasis to enhancing the role of the Special Task Force on Agency Reform (STAR). This task force is specifically designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of public service delivery in line with the aspirations and emphasis on Madani. Key initiatives include expediting the upgrading of dilapidated schools, adopting cashless payment methods, and improving ease of doing business.
The implementation of these measures is expected to bring significant benefits, including increased productivity, improved service quality, and greater satisfaction of the rakyat. – Bernama
