The establishment of a National Geology Disaster Centre will take place at the end of the year, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister stated that the purpose of this centre is to enhance disaster response and ensure the safety of the public. Anwar emphasized that the government recognizes the recurring incidents of floods and landslides and is determined to protect the people. He further explained that the National Geology Disaster Centre, to be introduced by the end of the year, aims to enhance the effectiveness of early warning systems and improve response efficiency towards disasters. These remarks were made by Anwar on Monday (Sept 11) during the presentation of the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review in Parliament.

Anwar also mentioned that the National Disaster Management Centre, which currently falls under the jurisdiction of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), will undergo a review. The objective of this review is to enhance preparedness and the ability to manage disasters. Anwar highlighted the importance of this initiative in ensuring the country’s readiness to handle such incidents.

Additionally, Anwar announced that there will be a review of laws related to pollution at water sources and the water services industry. The purpose of this review is to guarantee that those responsible for pollution receive appropriate penalties. Anwar stated that the sustainability of resources and the provision of clean water services to the people are important priorities. This action is aimed at preserving these resources and ensuring they are available for future generations.
