KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that approved projects, including those in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), that do not commence within a reasonable timeframe will be cancelled. The Prime Minister made this statement during the presentation of the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review in Parliament on Monday (Sept 11).
He emphasized that this decision aims to prioritize projects that are more urgent for the rakyat (people). Anwar called upon civil servants, including heads of departments, to execute their responsibilities with honesty and trustworthiness, in order to prevent any instances of wrongdoing or warnings highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report.
According to Anwar, the government has spent 34% of the RM400 billion allocation for the 12MP since its launch in 2021. He further explained that in 2021, only RM64.3 billion was spent on development expenditure, while the total for 2022 was RM71.6 billion.
To address pressing issues such as dilapidated schools, clinics, and subsidies, an additional RM15 billion will be allocated for the 12MP.
Anwar additionally revealed that a special monitoring committee will be established to oversee the implementation of projects under the 12MP. He asserted that both Cabinet members and himself will personally monitor these projects to ensure that the people can reap the benefits without further delays.
Furthermore, Anwar declared that the targets set in the 12MP mid-term review will be used as key performance indicators for ministries.
