KUALA LUMPUR: The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Mid-Term Review (MTR) is scheduled to be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Sept 11).
The tabling of the 12MP MTR is set for 10am on Monday, according to the Dewan Rakyat calendar. There will be no afternoon sitting as the debate will commence on Tuesday and run until Thursday. Replies from ministers will be given on the following Monday and Tuesday (Sept 18-19).
The meeting will be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel of the Malaysian Parliament as well as on various television networks.
This marks the first presentation of the MTR by the Unity Government since its formation after the 15th General Election on November 19 last year.
The 12MP, which has an allocation of RM400bil, was tabled on September 27, 2021. It serves as a complement to the country’s five-year development plan (2021-2025) with the goal of achieving developed and inclusive status.
The 12MP MTR was conducted to assess the progress made during the first two years of the five-year plan (2021-2022), as well as to outline the direction for the next three years (2023-2025). The objective is to transform the country into a sustainable, prosperous, and high-income nation while considering current domestic challenges and global trends.
The review focuses on two main aspects. The first is the re-evaluation and re-assessment of achievements, taking into account gap analysis, improvement, and proposals for new directions. The second aspect evaluates the efficiency of program and development project implementation.
On September 7, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli emphasized the need to evaluate the 12MP holistically, as the assumptions and plans made prior to the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022 have become obsolete.
On June 19, a Special Meeting of the Prime Minister was held with Cabinet ministers and secretaries-general of ministries to discuss the 12MP MTR. The meeting concluded that all parties must work together as a team to expedite the implementation of planned reforms and economic initiatives. – Bernama
