KUALA LUMPUR: According to Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, a total of 1,311 raids have been carried out on online crime syndicates in the city from January to September this year. The KL Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) also initiated 71 investigation papers (IP) during this period, resulting in the arrest of 855 individuals involved in scam call centers.
“In the last two months alone, we have conducted 20 raids on call centers and apprehended 342 individuals. Many of these call centers are located in luxury condominiums and apartments,” Comm Allaudeen stated after attending the KL police monthly assembly on October 24.
In light of this situation, Comm Allaudeen urged all Joint Management Bodies (JMB) of condominiums to take responsibility and prevent criminal activities on their premises. “In luxury condominiums, access is usually restricted, so how are foreigners able to operate call centers there? We are also considering the possibility of security guards being involved with these scam syndicates,” he added.
Kuala Lumpur police will collaborate with relevant agencies, including the commissioner of buildings, to tackle the problem of call centers operating within condominiums, Comm Allaudeen assured. He emphasized, “I have instructed KL CCID to intensify operations against these call centers. The scam syndicates behind them will be dealt with.”
In addition to the raids on call centers, KL CCID also conducted 2,333 other operations targeting commercial crimes during the same period, Comm Allaudeen informed. “These operations covered e-commerce scams, phone scams, and investment scams,” he further stated.
