Fourteen individuals, including two foreign nationals, have been apprehended in relation to the abduction of an Indonesian woman in George Town, Penang. The Penang police chief, Datuk Comm Khaw Kok Chin, announced that the arrest of the suspects, with two being women, took place during a special operation called Ops Scorpion Rantai. The operation was initiated following a report lodged by the victim’s husband at the Bandar Kinrara police station on September 15. The husband stated that his wife was kidnapped on September 7 while vacationing in George Town with three friends. Comm Khaw revealed that the suspects demanded RM540,000 for the release of the abducted woman. The state police headquarters in George Town held a press conference on Friday, September 22 to provide details about the arrests.
Investigations are ongoing with the goal of rescuing the victim and locating the individuals involved in the incident. Comm Khaw stated that the combined effort of the state and Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department conducted the special operation. On September 17, the police successfully saved the 36-year-old victim and another foreign man at a residence in Shah Alam. Subsequently, on the same day, between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., the authorities apprehended the fourteen suspects at various locations in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Perak.
The case is being scrutinized under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961.
