TEMERLOH: Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that a total of 1,577 high-risk slopes have been identified across Malaysia. The Works Minister also revealed that the ministry plans to request an allocation of RM17mil in the upcoming budget to install early warning systems for slope monitoring. Nanta emphasized the ministry’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season, stating that services will be improved based on past experiences.
Following a visit to the landslide at the embankment slope along KM117 west-bound of the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), Nanta stated that repair works, which began on September 13, were completed ahead of schedule. The stretch between KM117.8 and KM117.9 is expected to be reopened by 6pm on Thursday.
Nanta reiterated that the safety and convenience of road users are the top priority. He instructed long-term measures to be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. The surface cracks on the road, which occurred on September 10, are believed to be the result of an embankment slope collapse during flood mitigation works.
In another announcement, Nanta shared that RM180mil has been allocated this year for road repairs in Pahang. Additionally, RM38mil has been assigned to repair 12 federal roads affected by floods in the state. Three of these projects have been completed, while the remainder are still in progress. – Bernama
