According to Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Tan Cheng San, the 16-year-old driver involved in a fatal accident on the Penang Bridge has been released on police bail on Sunday (Nov 13).
The young driver, who is a Form Four student, was found to be driving without a licence at the time of the accident.
Tan Cheng San also revealed that the police are in the process of completing the investigation papers for the accident. Additionally, a summons has been issued against the teenager’s mother for allowing her son to drive her car without a proper licence.
The fatal crash occurred at 2.30am and involved three vehicles – a motorcycle, a car, and a lorry. Both the male motorcyclist and the female pillion rider, both in their 20s, lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
The 16-year-old driver sustained minor injuries, while the male lorry driver was unharmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Lexus car, which was traveling from the island to Perai, collided with the back of the lorry, causing it to lose control and collide with the motorcycle. This information was reported by Bernama.
