The National Heart Institute (IJN) CEO, Datuk Dr. Aizai Azan Abdul Rahim, revealed that 17.76% of the 1,357 deaths in Perrlis in 2021 were attributed to ischemic heart disease. This percentage is higher compared to the national average of 13.7% for ischemic heart disease-related deaths.
Dr. Aizai Azan shared this information during the opening of the Heart Health Screening Programme held at Universiti Malaysia Perlis. The programme is a Corporate Social Initiatives (CSI) by IJN. The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was present during the event.
In addition to the Regent, Raja Puan Muda Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who serves as the pro-chancellor of the university, also attended the event as a guest of honor.
The vice-chancellors of UniMAP, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli and Dr. Aizai Azan, welcomed the royal guests to the event.
This collaboration between IJN and UniMAP aims to raise awareness about the importance of heart health care. The Heart Health Screening Programme offers free health screenings and provides advice and guidance on adopting a healthy lifestyle. The programme seeks to encourage individuals to prioritize their heart health.
