Police in Penang have arrested 200 individuals, both men and women, for participating in illegal motorcycle racing and engaging in dangerous motorcycle stunts. The police operation, known as Ops Bersepadu (Ops Samseng Jalanan), took place on Sunday (Oct 8) in the early morning hours. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong provided details regarding the arrest.
According to Asst Comm Soffian, the arrest took place in the popular hotspot of E-Gate area, Lebuh Tunku Kudin, Gelugor. A total of 180 men and 20 women were caught participating in illegal racing activities in the area. The operation, conducted between 1am and 4am, was carried out in collaboration with the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation department.
Asst Comm Soffian explained that a group of motorcyclists had gathered in the E-Gate area for racing. In response, the police surrounded the area at 3am. The motorcyclists attempted to escape through the parking area of a nearby supermarket and adjacent buildings but were apprehended by the police.
The arrested individuals were then taken to the police headquarters. As a result of the operation, one man was arrested for possessing a fake registration number and 126 summonses were issued.
