Health director-general Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan revealed that a total of 23 cases of heat stroke were documented in Health Ministry facilities between January and March 11. These incidents occurred in various states including Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Sabah, Perlis, and Pahang.
During a press conference following the launch of the Food Cleanliness and Safety Operation for Ramadan Bazaars 2024, Dr. Muhammad Radzi highlighted the importance of taking precautions against heat stroke. He emphasized that the reported cases were individuals seeking treatment at healthcare facilities.
Out of the 23 cases, only one patient from Langkawi required treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Dr. Muhammad Radzi mentioned that the patient was provided with respiratory assistance and managed to recover.
He urged the public to avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially considering the current hot weather conditions. Dr. Muhammad Radzi stressed the importance of prevention when it comes to heat stroke.
He recommended simple measures like using an umbrella and wearing appropriate clothing that covers the body completely when going outside. These precautions can help mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses.
“Preventing heat stroke is crucial, and it revolves around avoiding heat exposure. By taking necessary steps such as protecting yourself from direct sunlight, you can significantly reduce the chances of succumbing to heat-related illnesses,” he explained. – Bernama
