A total of 23 councillors have taken their oaths to serve the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) for the 2023-2024 term. This term will last for 14 months, concluding in December of next year. The new council consists of ten members from DAP, eight from PKR, four from Amanah, and one from a non-governmental organization. Out of these 23 councillors, 12 are new faces, while 11 are returning members. There is currently one vacant position reserved for Umno.
Datuk A. Rajendran, the mayor of MBPP, expressed his greetings to the induction of the 12 new councillors and 11 incumbents during his speech. He acknowledged the challenging and dedicated nature of their roles, emphasizing the importance of effective time management. Regardless of the circumstances, Rajendran believes that by working together as a united team for the benefit of the citizens, they will overcome any obstacles and achieve success.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and local government committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye, in addition to other dignitaries.
