A total of 36 couples participated in a mass wedding registration ceremony at the Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association hall on September 9th, a date considered auspicious. Most couples wore white dresses and black suits, although some opted for shirts. One of the couples present were Law Zhe Sheun and Chu Su Yee, both 27, who work in Singapore. They had been friends since college, studying together in Sarawak and reconnected when Chu messaged Law on WeChat. Yong Yi Ting, a 25-year-old makeup artist, and Yang Der Lih, a 38-year-old businessman, met through mutual friends and dated for over a year before deciding to marry. Leong Chee Wah, a 40-year-old restaurant chef, and his hairstylist wife Choy Chuy Yeng, 34, became friends on a social media site before confessing their love for each other and dating for three years. They are planning to have their traditional wedding dinner on Saturday.
Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association president Datuk Ooi Foh Sing expressed his well wishes to all the couples and emphasized the importance of respecting one another and their families. He also mentioned that the chosen date symbolizes longevity and eternity in Chinese tradition.
