SEPANG: A total of 43 Malaysians, who were victims of a job scam syndicate in Peru, are being brought back home. Three of them have already arrived while the remaining 37 will be brought back in stages. The Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister, Datuk Mohamad Alamin, informed that the 37 victims will arrive on four flights scheduled for Oct 28, 29, 30, and Nov 1. He also mentioned that three victims are still in police custody in Peru. The rescue operation took place on Oct 7 after the victims had arrived in Lima a week earlier. The victims were subjected to a human trafficking syndicate operating a telecommunication scam in Peru. (Source: The Star)
According to Mohamad Alamin, the 37 remaining victims are currently being kept at a safe house in Peru and their families need not worry. The Deputy Foreign Minister mentioned that the three victims who were brought back yesterday will have their statements recorded before they can return home. He also acknowledged that three others are being held for further investigations by the Peruvian authorities. He commended the Peruvian government for their prompt action in rescuing the victims and facilitating their repatriation.
