PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has defended his controversial statement allegedly touching on the 3R issue, saying it was a statement of fact.

In a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 19), the Perikatan Nasional chairman said he had no intention of insulting the royal institution of the Malay Rulers or incite division among the people.

“I would like to emphasise that my speech at Nenggiri was a statement of fact that was not meant to disrespect the institution of the Malay Rulers or instigate any sort of disharmony.

“I believe that my statement did not violate any of our country’s laws,” wrote the former prime minister.

Muhyiddin also said he would give his full cooperation to the police in the investigation.

This came after a viral video that shows Muhyiddin seemingly questioning the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s decision to appoint Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister after the 15th General Election.

The statement was said to have been made when he campaigned for the Nenggiri by-election at Felda Perasu on Aug 15.

The video has since drawn severe condemnation from various parties including the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

At least 29 police reports have been lodged against Muhyiddin, who is scheduled to give his statement to the police on Tuesday (Aug 20).
