A fatal accident occurred at KM1.1 of Jalan Permas – Tanjung Bin in Pontian, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old man and injuries to five others.
Pontian District Police Chief, Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib, stated that they were informed of the incident at approximately 11.50pm on Saturday, September 16.
According to Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib, one of the cars involved was traveling from Lorong Haji Sakyon Darat to Lorong Haji Sakyon Laut, while the other car was heading towards Permas from Tanjung Bin.
Initial investigations revealed that the collision occurred at a four-way junction without a stop sign. The impact of the collision caused both cars to veer into a drain alongside the road.
The driver of one of the cars, a 42-year-old man, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other occupants from the same car sustained injuries and were taken to Hospital Pontian for medical treatment.
The driver of the other car also sustained injuries and was transported to a private hospital.
Meanwhile, Mohd Hasnan Abd Rahman, the operation commander from Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue Department, reported that eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.
Using specialized tools, the rescue team successfully extricated one victim who was trapped inside a vehicle. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene.
