Customs officials at Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) airport in southern India have confiscated 47 pythons from an Indian national who had just arrived from Kuala Lumpur. Two lizards were also discovered concealed in the passenger’s luggage. This seizure was carried out in accordance with India’s customs and wildlife protection laws, and the confiscated reptiles will be returned to Malaysia. The male passenger, originally from Chennai, had arrived on a Batik Air flight on July 29.
India often faces issues with wildlife smugglers attempting to bring exotic reptiles from South-East Asia. This incident follows a similar one in April, when authorities at Chennai airport found 22 snakes in the baggage of a woman who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur.
