KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin stated that Malaysia’s economic growth rate of 5.9% between 2021 and 2022 was achieved under Perikatan Nasional’s leadership. He pointed out that during these two years, the nation’s GDP grew on average by 5.9%. Additionally, Hamzah highlighted that 90% of projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan were implemented on schedule, and 100% of them were completed. Refuting claims that the previous administration was worse, the Opposition leader made it clear that these assertions were false.
The economy also experienced significant growth last year, with a rate of 8.7%, surpassing several ASEAN countries and marking the fastest growth in the past 22 years. Hamzah emphasized that all these positive outcomes were achieved when Perikatan was in power, and he stated that no one can deny the party’s ability to govern.
During his discussion on the mid-term review of the 12MP in Parliament, Hamzah questioned the government’s effort in eradicating hardcore poverty by 2025. He pointed out that even developed countries struggle to completely eradicate hardcore poverty, although it can be reduced. He highlighted Prime Minister’s goal of achieving this by the end of this year, much earlier than the 2025 target. While expressing his happiness about the Prime Minister’s confidence, Hamzah inquired about the yardstick that will be used to determine if hardcore poverty has been eradicated.
In response to Hamzah’s remarks, Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman reminded him that there are only three months remaining before the end of this year. The article ends here.
