The director of Kuala Lumpur Immigration, Syamsul Badrin Mohshin, stated that the three-hour long operation, which commenced at 1.15am, was carried out in response to complaints from residents about the increasing numbers of foreigners in the area.
During the operation, a total of 1,000 foreigners were screened and 252 Bangladeshis, 163 Nepalese, 75 Myanmar nationals, 72 Indonesians, four Filipinos, and one Indian national were detained for various immigration offences, including not having valid travel documents.
Following the operation, all the detained foreigners, whose ages ranged from four months to 55 years, were taken to the immigration detention depot in Bukit Jalil for further investigation, as confirmed by Syamsul Badrin in his statements to reporters.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the detained foreigners were found to be living in homes where eight to ten individuals shared a unit, with rentals starting at RM1,000 per month, as reported by Bernama.
