IPOH: The Perak Immigration Department (JIM) detained 59 foreigners in an operation at a fishing jetty in Hutan Melintang early on Friday morning, August 4. Among those detained, aged between seven and 55, were individuals from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Myanmar. During the operation, which took place at around 1 am, 61 foreigners were screened, with 59 of them found guilty of immigration-related offenses. The remaining two were handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for further investigation. The presence of enforcement officers led some illegal immigrants to attempt escape by jumping into the sea and hiding in bushes. However, they were apprehended, according to State Immigration Department director Hapdzan Husaini. The operation involved 35 officers from the Perak JIM Enforcement Division, assisted by 26 members from the Putrajaya JIM Intelligence and Special Operations Division, as well as 30 MMEA personnel. It concluded at 4 am. All 59 foreigners detained during the operation are now under investigation for violations of Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, announced Hapdzan. – Bernama
