In Pahang, a total of 79 telecommunication towers have been constructed as part of Phase One of the National Digital Network (Jendela), out of the target of 270 towers. The remaining 191 towers are currently under construction and will be completed gradually. The upgrade from 3G to 4G of 902 transmitter stations was finished in the middle of last year. Moreover, 69 Orang Asli villages in the interior have received free satellite broadband Internet services.

This information was given by Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, the committee chairman for communication and multimedia, youth, sports, and NGO in the state. He provided these updates during a state assembly meeting at Wisma Sri Pahang on September 5th. Fadzli was responding to V. Arumugam’s query regarding the progress of communication infrastructure projects being implemented throughout Pahang.

In the second quarter of this year, the coverage of 4G mobile broadband in Pahang increased to 94.31%, compared to 89.1% in the same quarter of 2020. This coverage is expected to continue rising once all Phase One Jendela projects are completed. To expedite tower construction, the state government has initiated integrated and strategic cooperation with various government agencies such as the Land and Mines Office, Forestry Department, and Public Works Department.

Fadzli exemplified this streamlined approach by highlighting the completion of the tower in Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Boh, Cameron Highlands. From site acquisition to tower activation, the construction process took approximately five months. Sim Chon Siang, the state’s consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman, added that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry organized 90 Rahmah Sales programs in Pahang from January to June this year.

Furthermore, the ministry plans to hold Rahmah Sales twice a month until December in all 14 parliamentary constituencies in Pahang. These efforts aim to provide affordable consumer goods to the public. The update on the progress of communication infrastructure projects and consumer affairs initiatives showcases the state government’s commitment to improving the digital network and cost of living for the people of Pahang.
