SEREMBAN: Police in the state have received a total of 83 reports related to various election-related matters since nomination day, according to Dep Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff.
The majority of these reports are connected to allegations that candidates have failed to obtain the necessary permits for campaigning.
“We have only received one report regarding vandalism, where an individual claimed that a candidate’s poster was damaged in Jempol,” said DCP Ahmad Dzaffir.
“Apart from the police reports, the past three days have been uneventful, with campaigns proceeding without any trouble,” he added when met at the state police contingent.
DCP Ahmad Dzaffir also stated that the police have not received any reports concerning the 3R (royalty, religion, and race) issues.
He reminded candidates and their supporters to refrain from discussing sensitive topics or engaging in hate speech related to the 3R, as the police will be monitoring all news and social media platforms.
“If we come across any such acts, we will launch an investigation, even if no one lodges a report,” he emphasized.
DCP Ahmad Dzaffir emphasized that the police will not compromise on this matter, as Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has already urged people to avoid such actions.
On Sunday, the IGP stated that a 3R task force will complete investigations on 3R offences within seven days after an investigation paper (IP) is opened.
Ahmad Dzaffir said the police will physically monitor campaigns and also review all social media footage to ensure action is taken against any individuals who violate the 3R guidelines.
“This monitoring will continue until the last day of the campaign period,” he stated.
He also advised all candidates to strictly adhere to the conditions stated in their campaign permits.
All campaigns must cease by midnight, or else they will be in violation of the permit conditions.
In a separate incident, DCP Ahmad Dzaffir reported that the assistant to Barisan Nasional’s Jeram Padang candidate, who was involved in an accident early yesterday (July 31), is still in the critical care unit at Kuala Pilah Hospital.
The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
The candidate, Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir, sustained a broken leg in the crash that occurred along Jalan Pasir-Besar at around 3am.
His assistant suffered severe injuries and had to be transferred from Jempol Hospital to Kuala Pilah for treatment.
