Students and their parents gathered at the Star Education Fair 2023 to explore tertiary study options. Shashwydh Saravanan, 16, and his family arrived early in the morning to check out science programmes offered by universities. Shashwydh, a pure science student, expressed his interest in biology, chemistry, and physics and hoped to gain a clearer idea of his future course. He enjoyed the experience and appreciated listening to university representatives providing information about their courses.
Shashwydh’s mother, Vijaya Lakshmi, mentioned that it was their first time attending the fair. She explained that they had read about it in The Star newspaper before but had never gone. With Shashwydh now in Form Four, they wanted him to explore his options and believed that the university representatives could explain better than parents. They also brought along their 11-year-old son, Kirthykan, who was interested in aerospace.
Muhammad Shazyan, 16, and his family also attended the fair to find out more about pilot training courses. He aspired to become an aircraft or helicopter pilot and was eager to gather information from flying academies at the booths.
Sufian Rafie, Muhammad Shazyan’s father, won a lifestyle knapsack in a contest during the fair. He found the “Introduction to International Aero Training Academy” talk informative and gained knowledge about the requirements for studying as a pilot and obtaining a license for his son.
The Star Education Fair, organized by Star Media Group, hosted 39 institutions and 71 booths offering various study options and financial aids, including scholarships and study loans. Major exhibitors included Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), Mahsa University, Management and Science University (MSU), SEGi University & Colleges, City University Malaysia, and KPJ Healthcare University.
In addition to local institutions, the fair also had participation from international institutions such as the New York Film Academy Australia, the International Aero Training Academy (Malaysia), the Savannah College of Art and Design (United States), the University of Life Sciences “King Mihai I” (Romania), Rennes School of Business (France), Health Careers International (Australia), Australian International School Malaysia, and Singapore Institute of Technology.
Participants had the chance to win prizes such as a Gintell G-Beetle Plus Foot Massager, lifestyle knapsacks, Starbucks gift cards worth RM30, and TGV Cinemas tickets. Interesting talks on topics like “Learning opportunities after the Covid disruptions” and “Why pursue a masters in education” were also scheduled.
The fair, which ran from 11am to 7pm, concluded on the final day. Admission was free. For more details, visit facebook.com/stareducationfair.
