JOHOR BARU: Meet fireman Ahmad Syahir Din Osman, the hulk-like figure who has proven himself as a force to be reckoned with in the Johor Fire and Rescue Department. This 28-year-old fireman from Melaka recently claimed victory in Singapore’s Strongest 2023 competition held on June 17.
Competing against participants from Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong in the 105kg category, Ahmad Syahir emerged as the winner of the strongman competition. Impressed by his performance, the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department has chosen him as one of the 34 members representing Malaysia in the upcoming World Police and Firefighter Games 2023. The games will take place in Canada from July 26 to Aug 6.
Expressing his excitement, Ahmad Syahir said, “It’s an honor for me to represent Malaysian firefighters in a world event, where I will be competing against top firefighters and policemen from various countries. I’m really looking forward to it.” In the powerlifting event, two other firemen, one from Sabah and another from Terengganu, will also be participating, he added. Ahmad Syahir himself will be competing in the under 93kg category.
Ahmad Syahir has set his sights high for the event, aiming to win the category or at least secure a podium finish. “This is my first time representing the department at a world event, and I want to perform exceptionally well. I anticipate strong competition from participants of major countries in Europe and even the United States of America,” he shared. Despite lacking a personal coach, he has been physically and mentally preparing himself by regularly going to the gym five days a week.
Married with a two-year-old son, Ahmad Syahir emphasized the importance of maintaining a strict diet as part of his training regimen. He eats six times a day and pays close attention to his sugar intake to ensure he remains in optimal condition for the games. “There are no specific dos or don’ts when it comes to my food, but controlling my sugar intake is crucial,” he explained.
