The investigation into Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement, which has been perceived as critical of the Malay Rulers and various other parties, is currently underway, according to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister revealed that a special police team specializing in cases related to race, religion, and royalty, is currently looking into the matter with urgency.
“The investigation is progressing quickly. The team has a deadline of seven days to complete their inquiry before handing over the investigation report to the Attorney General,” he said during a press conference held at Rumah Seri Kenangan in Ipoh on Monday (March 4).
Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that he will only disclose specific information pertaining to the case and will not interfere with the investigations.
“I will only share information that can be disclosed,” he stated, mentioning that the police have received several reports regarding the issue.
Abdul Hadi released a statement titled “The Stature of Islam Must Be Defended” on the party’s website on Feb 20.
This statement came following the Federal Court’s decision to strike out 16 criminal provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (1) 2019 on Feb 9.
The Member of Parliament for Marang also faced criticism from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris.
