TASEK GELUGOR: Abdul Mohsein Mohd Shariff, the Telok Ayer Tawar candidate for Pakatan Harapan, has promised to act as a liaison between the people and relevant authorities to address local issues, such as floods and drainage problems in the area.
Abdul Mohsein emphasized the need for a proper approach to address the concerns of the mixed urban and rural constituency in Telok Ayer Tawar. He stated that voters have complained about flooding caused by heavy rain at night, with some areas being severely affected. Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding the poor drainage system, which requires the involvement of local authorities.
“I am currently working directly with them. I believe that my presence can serve as a facilitator or intermediary for the people of Telok Ayer Tawar. This will ensure that residents’ issues are promptly resolved,” he said during a meeting in Tasek Gelugor.
Abdul Mohsein will face off against Perikatan Nasional candidate Azmi Alang for the Telok Ayer Tawar state seat, which has a majority Malay population and 24,784 voters.
Flooding has been a longstanding issue in the area, according to Abdul Mohsein. He highlighted the need to upgrade the existing drainage system to prevent further floods. Technical cooperation from government agencies, such as the Drainage and Irrigation Department, is necessary to address this matter.
In addition to flood prevention, Abdul Mohsein promised to introduce more basic infrastructure if elected to the state seat. He noted the lack of ATM machines in the area and assured residents that he would bring about more development and changes to the surrounding regions.
When asked about his engagement with non-Malay voters, Abdul Mohsein expressed positive feedback from his meet-the-people sessions. He stated that he had discussions with the Chinese community regarding their issues, such as the improvement of the drainage system. He also met with Indian residents and the Tasek Gelugor MIC leadership, who pledged their full commitment to support and campaign for him.
Addressing other challenges, Abdul Mohsein acknowledged that the election logo used by Pakatan Harapan posed difficulties during the campaign, as people in the area were previously familiar with the Barisan Nasional’s ‘dacing’ logo. However, as Barisan and Pakatan are collaborating, the decision was made to use the Pakatan logo.
