JOHOR BARU: The seven-year-old boy, who was allegedly abused by his mother and her friend in Bandar Layangkasa, Pasir Gudang, will be placed in the care of his relatives once he has recovered.

Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin Nisa Ismail said a medical report showed that the injuries to the child’s body were inflicted using a cane.

“I visited the child at Sultan Ismail Hospital here on Sunday (Aug 13) and he is in good condition.

“The child seems very happy and (will be placed) under the care of his 27-year-old father, uncle and grandfather, who have come from Kedah.

“He, however, will only be handed over to his next of kin until he has recovered and discharged,” she said when contacted on Monday (Aug 14).

The state government also handed over some donations to the family and celebrated the child’s birthday during the visit, she added.

Earlier, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said two canes were seized from the house where the alleged offence was committed.

The suspects, the boy’s 27-year-old mother and her friend, a 30-year-old foreign woman, were arrested around 12.30am Saturday (Aug 12).

He said the mother was currently under remand for six days until Thursday (Aug 17) and her friend, until Friday (Aug 18).

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse.

It was reported earlier that the boy’s cries had worried a group of neighbours, who decided to act by visiting the house and asking to see the child.
