KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old Indonesian maid, who was allegedly beaten by her employer, was rescued by the police.
Not only was she abused, the employer did not even pay the victim a salary for the past six months.
The victim was rescued following a raid by the Bukit Aman CID Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) division (D3) at a house in Selayang at about 6.15pm on Thursday (June 27).
The division principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the police team raided a semi-detached house in Selayang in an operation codenamed “Ops Pintas”.
“We detained a 39-year-old woman, who is the employer.
“The suspect, who works as an accountant, was brought to the Gombak district police headquarters for an investigation under Section 12 of the Atipsom Act 2007,” he said when contacted on Friday (June 28).
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been working at the house for about six months.
“We believe she was abused by her employer, who slapped her and hit her using a cane.
“The victim sustained various injuries, including on her hands and face,” he said.
SAC Soffian said the victim was promised a salary of RM1,400 a month but she claimed that she has not been paid any salary since working for the suspect.
