In the spirit of Deepavali, a non-profit organization is spreading goodwill.
Hamidi’s Comrades in Charity (HCIC) has given out RM150 in cash to less fortunate Indian communities.
The president of HCIC, Hamidi Mookaiyah Abdullah, mentioned that they have previously distributed supermarket cash vouchers but wanted to give families the freedom to decide how to use the money for Deepavali this year.
The funds were given to families facing genuine hardship after a thorough assessment of their background and household income.
HCIC also distributed RM10 to the pupils and rewarded six pupils with an extra RM10 each for maintaining perfect attendance in their tuition classes.
Additionally, HCIC has been running a free six-month tuition program for primary school pupils, focusing on English, Mathematics, and Bahasa Malaysia every Saturday.
They hope to transform this initiative into a long-term program after evaluating the pupils’ progress and have primarily retired teachers conducting the program.
According to Hamidi, they allocated approximately RM13,000 for their Deepavali mission, and the guest of honor at the aid handover event was Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George.
Recipients and pupils were treated to vegetarian food at the event, and a first-time aid recipient expressed their gratitude for the aid, which they will use to buy necessities.
Muniamah, who lost a limb in a work-related accident, has been receiving assistance from HCIC for the past two years, and recipient Balakumaravel, who is in a wheelchair, has been receiving RM200 every two months from HCIC.
For those wishing to contribute to HCIC’s mission, they can donate via its bank account (CIMB: 8011004760) or call Hamidi (019-277 3856).
