AMPANG: Residents of the landslide-affected Taman Melawati will have to wait at least another day or two before they can return to their homes, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that evaluations are ongoing by various authorities, including the Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) to confirm the safety of the area.

“The JMG officers will proceed with their assessments at around 10am,” he said during his visit to the landslide site at Jalan Serdang and Jalan E6 around 8am.

Amirudin also engaged with some of the residents who have been relocated to a community hall nearby.

On-site, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) personnel, alongside other agencies, were seen covering the exposed slope with tarpaulin.

Amirudin then said that all landowners should undertake proper maintenance of their properties.

This call to action follows early indications that the landslide may have been precipitated by blocked drainage atop the slope.

“Landowners must proactively manage their property. We have contacted the landowner in question and issued a notice for road and drain maintenance,” said Amirudin.
