KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who was recently cleared of corruption charges, is now focusing on leading Sabah Umno to victory in the next Sabah elections. The Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed the charges against him on September 7, allowing him to concentrate on strengthening the party before the elections scheduled for September 2025. Bung Moktar expressed his determination to meet with grassroots leaders and further organize Sabah Umno in order to ensure a successful campaign. He emphasized the need for Umno to return to power in Sabah and develop the state, stating that the people deserve better infrastructure, amenities, and economy. Several party leaders, including Sabah Umno secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin and Sabah Umno Treasurer Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said Keruak, were present at a Sabah Umno thanksgiving event where Bung Moktar made these remarks.

In May 2019, Bung Moktar and his wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, were charged with corruption totaling RM2.8 million. The High Court allowed their revision application, reversing the order for them to enter their defense. Judge Azhar Abdul Hamid justified the decision, stating it was within the Court’s power to make revisions in cases such as these. The charges against Bung Moktar alleged that he accepted bribes in exchange for Felcra approval to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trusts. The bribes were allegedly accepted through Zizie Izette at a Public Bank branch in Kuala Lumpur in June 2015. Zizie Izette faced three charges of abetting her husband in this matter.

Looking ahead, Bung Moktar stressed that the issues of better roads, clean water supply, and stable power supply must be resolved immediately by the Sabah government. Sabah Umno aims to tackle these issues and ensure the development of the state’s infrastructure. He expressed confidence that with a strong commitment from the state government, it is possible to address these concerns and promote Sabah’s progress.
