PETALING JAYA: Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun has taken leave prior to his retirement on Sept 6. This is to utilize his remaining annual leave, according to a source.
The role of Attorney General will now be assumed by Solicitor-General Datuk Terrirudin Mohd Salleh in accordance with the law when the AG is absent or the position is vacant.
Under subsection 376(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code, the SG has all the powers of a Deputy Public Prosecutor and acts as a Public Prosecutor in the AG’s absence or incapability to act.

Idrus had his tenure extended in 2022 for a year and was reappointed as the Attorney General for six months from March 6, 2023, the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said on March 3.
The reappointment of Idrus was consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, under Clause (1) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.
According to Article 145(1), the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, with the advice of the prime minister, appoints a qualified person who can be a Federal Court judge to be the AG.
Idrus, previously a former Federal Court judge, assumed the role of AG on March 6, 2020.
During his career, he served as deputy public prosecutor in the AG’s Chambers, legal advisor at the Election Commission and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the Solicitor General and Court of Appeal judge.
