The Attorney General has been urged by Amanah to provide a detailed explanation for the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Amanah’s secretary-general, Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli, stated that while the party respected the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to discharge Ahmad Zahid on Monday (Sept 4), they believed that an explanation would provide clarity to everyone. He further expressed confidence that the judge had carefully examined and deliberated on the legal process and court proceedings of the case. However, Amanah believes that an explanation from the Attorney General or the AG’s Chambers is necessary to promote integrity and accountability, and to reassure all parties involved.
Dr Mohd Hatta emphasized that the detailed explanation would not only put everyone at ease but also demonstrate the integrity of Malaysia’s legal institutions. On Monday (Sept 4), the High Court granted a DNAA to Ahmad Zahid for all 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
