KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has lodged an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision to exonerate former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad.
Confirming the action, Attorney General Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh conveyed in a brief message to the media, “Yes, we have filed.”
The notice of appeal was formally submitted on Thursday, as per reports.
On the previous day, a panel of three judges from the appellate court cleared Mohd Isa of nine charges of corruption amounting to RM3.09 million associated with Felda’s purchase of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching, Sarawak.
The initial conviction of Mohd Isa was delivered by the High Court on February 3, 2021.
Then High Court judge Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who is now a Court of Appeal judge, meted out a sentence of six years’ imprisonment and a fine of RM15.45 million, with an alternative of 18 years behind bars, for all nine offenses.
