The Attorney General’s Chambers has announced that it will appeal the High Court’s decision to discharge and acquit former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of four abuse of power charges. Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed the press that the prosecution has received instructions to file a notice of appeal later this afternoon.
When asked for comment on the court’s decision, the prosecutor stated, “We accept the court’s decision for now”. Additionally, DPP Wan Shaharuddin mentioned that the prosecution will file for a stay of proceedings in Muhyiddin’s money laundering case at the Sessions Court pending the appeal of the High Court’s decision.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, 75, is also facing three other charges of money laundering involving RM200 million under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Illegal Activities Act 2001. DPP Wan Shaharuddin revealed that the money laundering case is scheduled for a joint trial application on September 19, where they will apply for the stay.
