The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry’s focus on implementing programmes to increase padi production in the country will continue, according to its minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. The aim is to add value to the efforts and strengthen the national food security agenda as rice is the staple food in Malaysia.

Mohamad Sabu emphasized the importance of ensuring sufficient rice production in the country, stating that the ministry is dedicated to this goal. This focus will remain unchanged despite a recent cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (Dec 12).

His comments were made after he closed the Entrepreneurship and Curriculum Day at Maahad Al-Ehya Assharif Gunung Semanggol on Tuesday night. He highlighted the government’s efforts in expanding padi farming areas, including in Sabah and Sarawak, as part of the strategy to ensure sufficient padi production in the country.

The minister’s remarks indicate the government’s commitment to food security and the significant role of rice in the Malaysian diet. These efforts are in line with the overall national agenda to ensure a steady supply of rice, a crucial staple food for the population.

The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry’s emphasis on increasing padi production is integral to maintaining food security and meeting the dietary needs of the population. The government’s expansion of padi farming areas, including in Sabah and Sarawak, reflects a proactive approach to ensure sufficient rice production in the country. – Bernama
