KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences on the passing of National Journalism Laureate 2014 Datuk Ahmad Rejal Arbee Mohamed Isa Arbee, acknowledging his significant impact on the field of journalism in Malaysia.
He noted that Ahmad Rejal, who served as the editor-in-chief of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and former group editor of Berita Harian, was a pioneer in the exploration of bilingual media.
“My condolences to the family. May Allah forgive all his sins and grant him a special place in Jannah, Insya-Allah,” Anwar wrote in a Facebook post on Friday (March 29).
Ahmad Rejal passed away at 2am at the Shah Alam Hospital on Friday at the age of 83.
The veteran journalist had been hospitalized the previous Friday due to a lung infection.
His final resting place is at the Section 21 Muslim cemetery in Shah Alam, where nearly 200 family members and members of the media fraternity gathered to pay their respects.
Ahmad Rejal received the National Journalism Laureate title at the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Journalism Award 2014 for his outstanding contributions to journalism in Malaysia. – Bernama
