KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the chairman of Barisan Nasional, remains confident that MCA and MIC will stay with the party despite receiving offers to join another party ahead of the upcoming state elections in six states. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the president of Umno, stated that the party making the offer is known for seizing opportunities during elections, whether it’s a by-election or a General Election (GE).
Ahmad Zahid expressed his confidence in MCA and MIC’s loyalty to Barisan Nasional during a press briefing at the launch of the 2023 National Entrepreneur Week and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Week at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday (July 9). He acknowledged the offer made by Perikatan Nasional’s election director, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, urging MCA and MIC to join their pact for the forthcoming state elections. However, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that both parties have always been an essential part of Barisan.
When questioned about former Putrajaya deputy Umno chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz’s decision to join Bersatu on July 9, Ahmad Zahid wished him “all the best” and emphasized the need for loyal leaders within Umno and Barisan.
Turning his attention to a statement by DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who claimed that a “Green Wave” would destroy Buddhist temples, Ahmad Zahid dismissed the statement as an attempt to smear Lim’s image. He mentioned that the incident mentioned in the report occurred a long time ago and should not be used to engage in character assassination. Ahmad Zahid stressed that differences in political ideology should be based on good moral principles rather than personal attacks. – Bernama
