GEORGE TOWN: The development of artificial intelligence (AI) code of ethics and governance guidelines will be launched by the end of this year, says Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chan Lih Kang.
The minister said the guidelines draft is in the final stage, and once approved by the Cabinet, it will be launched in December.
“We are working with the Digital Ministry in formulating the guidelines and there is still a bit of fine-tuning to be done,” Chan said after launching the AI Education Hub at the Tech Dome in Komtar on Friday (Aug 9).
“We are looking at dates in December when either the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister is available for the launch.”
Earlier, it was reported in March that the guidelines would be launched in April.
The AI guidelines are developed specifically for three main categories: users and the public, policymakers, and providers or developers of AI-based technology.
The ministry also held a public consultation session with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation through the Unified Public Consultancy portal in March this year, seeking improvements to the draft before it was finalised.
