SHAH ALAM: An Immigration Department officer, believed to be the mastermind behind the ‘counter setting’ syndicate, has been remanded for seven days.

The remand order against the 49-year-old accused from Sept 22 to 28 was issued by Magistrate Mohd Sabri Ismail at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court on Sunday (Sept 22) after an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The suspect was arrested at 1pm on Saturday at the Negri Sembilan MACC office.

The accused, represented by lawyer Shahidah Muslimah, is accused of accepting bribes at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Immigration counter from the syndicate’s agents to allow foreign nationals who did not meet conditions to enter Malaysia.

The act was carried out between 2021 and 2023 when the suspect was on duty and the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
