    Almost 2,800 domestic violence cases recorded from 2021 to 2023, says Social Welfare Dept

    KUALA LUMPUR: Statistics from the Social Welfare Department show that 2,794 domestic violence cases were recorded nationwide from 2021 to 2023, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

    Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said of the cases involving both men and women, 773 cases were in Selangor, with 81 occurring in Klang.

    “In one case, an Emergency Protection Order was issued, seven cases with Interim Protection Orders, five with Protection Orders, eight cases received counselling, 41 cases provided with advisory services and four cases were referred to other agencies.

    “In addition, three cases involved private separate living arrangements, four cases returned to their parents’ homes, one application was withdrawn and seven cases are still under investigation,” she said during Question Time in response to a question from V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) on the statistics of domestic violence cases recorded in Klang, Selangor.

    However, Nancy did not provide the breakdown for the remaining cases. – Bernama
