In PETALING JAYA, the Statistics Department reported that 97.78% of production companies that hire child and youth actors do not pay Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions. Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin revealed that only 2.22% of production companies actually do pay these contributions.
Furthermore, data from the department’s survey on child and youth actors in films and dramas showed that 73.13% of these companies were not aware that they needed to obtain a public entertainment licence from the Labour Department. Meanwhile, 22.71% were unsure of this requirement.
Mohd Uzir also mentioned that 52.91% of production companies have never applied for the licence, with 47.09% being unsure if they needed to do so.
