PETALING JAYA: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leaders expressed sadness over the sudden passing of its deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said his passing was a tragic day for all members and supporters of the party and told supporters to be patient during this trying time.

“Tonight is a tragic night for all Amanah supporters and members,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 23).

“We would like to tell all Amanah supporters to be patient during this trying time and pray for Salahuddin’s family as they mourn his passing,” he added.

Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Salahuddin wasn’t just a great leader but also a good friend who always respected both his friends and foes.

“He has left a great legacy with the conception of the payung Rahmah initiative for B40 people,” he said when contacted.

“He was always honest in his dealings and we dearly miss him during this state election period as he plays an important role in party negotiations.

“We have lost a great leader in our party, but if Amanah supporters truly loved him, we would all carry on and continue his mission to bring Amanah forward.”

Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub died at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah here at about 9pm on Sunday (July 23).

Salahuddin, 61, who was Pulai MP, suffered a brain haemorrhage at 10.15pm on Saturday (July 22) and underwent surgery Sunday morning.
