JOHOR BARU: Amanah has no intention of giving up its Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats to any other party, says its Johor deputy chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad (pic).

This was because the two seats come under Amanah’s quota, he said.

“Furthermore, Simpang Jeram is the only state seat that Amanah won during the Johor state election, while Pulai is one out of two parliamentary seats in which we emerged victorious in the last general election.

“The other is the Sri Gading parliamentary seat won by our chairman Aminolhuda Hassan.

“If the party were to make way to others, it means that Johor Amanah will have fewer representatives in Parliament and none in the state assembly, which we do not want to happen,” he said.

The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats became vacant following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also Amanah deputy president.

Salahuddin, who was Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, died on July 23 following a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Dzulkefly said the Johor Amanah party leadership would likely be calling for a meeting once the current elections in the six states were over.

This was due to the directive given by party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu who wanted focus to be given on the ongoing state elections before making any decision, including on the candidates for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, he said yesterday.
