The Speaker of the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly will be a member of Amanah, according to Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, the Mentri Besar. Aminuddin stated that the Deputy Speaker position will be given to a candidate from PKR. He added that while the specific candidate has not been finalized, Amanah will have the opportunity to propose and present their nominee to the Ruler for consent. Aminuddin made these remarks during a press conference after chairing the state exco meeting on Wednesday (Aug 30).

Aminuddin, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan chief, pointed out that the assembly’s approval is necessary for the selection of the Speaker. In the previous government, the Speaker position was held by Amanah member Datuk Zulkefly Mohamed Omar, with PKR’s Datuk M Ravi serving as the Deputy Speaker. This time, the Speaker position is likely to be filled by either Klawang assemblyman and former state exco Datuk Bakri Sawir or state Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman.

It is worth noting that the Speaker does not have to be an assemblyman, while the deputy must be according to state law. In the previous state government, Amanah held two exco positions, but they did not receive any appointments in the new lineup announced last week.

The post of Deputy Speaker will either be given to Sri Tanjung assemblyman G Rajasekaran or Yew Boon Lye from Chuah.
